Searches Windows NTFS volumes well

Finds my photo files on external hard drives formatted with NTFS. No trick with Terminal could keep Spotlight effective for searching Windows NTFS volumes. I used Paragon’s excellent NTFS driver to enable write functions to NTFS but that wasn’t enough to make sure good. EasyFind brings back search using the basics without silly extras

You are doing great things for the world.

Whoever you are DEVONTechnologies, you’ve made a fantastic app, and the fact that you’ve decided to give it away makes you a truly excellent human being (or set of humans, if there are more than one of you). This is better than any paid app. Try this app, then say nice things about this app.

Excellent system search tool

This is my go-to app for finding stuff on my Mac. Forget spotlight.

What Spotlight should have been

The Easyfind app intro says it all: Spotlight could use a little help. I used EasyFind when I worked on PC platforms, and it was always a lifesaver, since Microsofts search algorithms have never worked properly. Spotlight is an improvement (admittedly from a very low bar) by I would be very happy to replace Spotlight with EasyFind. As it is, EasyFind is the first App on my App Bar on the OS X Desktop

Cute icon AND an awesome app!

OK, so I have a soft spot for the little guy holding the magnifying glass. But this is no cute, fuzzy program. It is fast and thorough. Spotlight has over the last few incarnations become totally useless to me. It can’t decide what it wants to be when it grows up. Easy Find does exactly what its name says. It searches local drives as well as PC based network drives. I can’t thank the developers enough for this app. It makes my work life easier every day.

Continuous Downloads

Everytime I open this app to do a search it will open a web browser and download it self, again. I previously had the version from their website isntalled and thought it was the problems. Removed the app and I noticed settings were kept after I isntalled from the App Store. I could nto find any preferences for this app. I deleted Application Support and found nothing in Containers, preferences or Saved Application Support. Besides all of this annoying stuff it worked well. Just not going to continue to use it. I sent them an email and their suggest was to use it from their website, no change.

Perfect!

Spotlight basically is a joke. I have been seaching for a file this morning with spotlight and never found it. Did a search for a search (haha) and found EasyFind. Installed it, did a search using the extension of the file, set to “Date Created” and boom. done. That little squirrel knows how to find it’s nut!

Absolutely genius

Ever save a PPT you opened from an email, and FORGET to move it out of your Outlook Temp folder? Only to have it seemilngly disappear into the abyss after hours of work? No more foraging dozens of folders deep to retreive it. EasyFind will pop it right up in two seconds flat. LIFE SAVER. Thank you, EasyFind!

Best App Removal

It found the logmein app, sound drivers and more that Mac techs and Norton security could not find in my computer that was installed. If I could rate this app higher I would!

It just works after Spotlight let me down

Back in the day, let’s say 2005, Spotlight used to be able to search a networked PC drive insanely faster than the native search functions built into the Windows XP system itself. Finding a file in 4 seconds from a Mac versus 79 seconds from the PC being searched was typical of my experience. Even when I worked on the PC itself, I sometimes searched from my networked Mac Pro! Several years later, I started using Mac Server as my file server and moved from a recongifured MacPro as server to a Mac Mini Server solution, but I outgrew it of late and felt the time might be right to move to a Windows server. By that time, I was on Mavericks and didn’t anticipate just how broken SMB was on the Mac platform, since I had been using Apple server technology for about seven years straight. I was about to buy a seat of a third party product that was said to allow potlight searches for SMB volumes for the server, but since I was the only Mac user on the network, this grated on me. Said software was fairly costly. So I looked into it further and EasyFind seemed like a solution that I could not pass up trying at [literally] infinitely less cost. Five minutes later, and I can now access and search for files on the server once again! I was appalled at how spotty performance of Spotlight was when searching a PC server. It almost didn’t work at all, except for the rare instances where it did. Intermittently.

PERFECT!!

Stay away from apps like Alfred or similar that merely rely on spotlight or (ahem) google. This app is amazing. I have all my indexing off, SPotlight disabled and this little gem finds everything I need! YES a resounding YES!!!

How on earth is this free and FANTASTIC?

I haven’t been so surprised and blown away by an app since I used Spotlight the first time. This is just incredible. I was able to search massive terabytes of network data in just SECONDS without ANY INDEXING. It just works. Well deserved 5 star.

What Spotlight should be

Apple Spotlight doesn’t work AT ALL when searching on a Windows Server volume. EasyFind has no indexing or caching — it just searches the volume and finds what you’re looking for. Today’s computers and networks are so fast, there’s no reason to have corruption-prone indexes and caches. Why Apple can’t seem to grasp that concept... is topic for another discussion.

Works better than OS X Spotlight or Finder search

I have always been frustrated with Spotlight search or even just searching through a Finder window. Either I’m not quickly finding what I need and/or I’m getting results I don’t care for. EasyFind is awesome, I use it everyday. Its accurate, fast, and reliable, period. Its a solid app. I look forward to its evolution…hope the developers keep improving this app from the inside and out.

Saved the Day

I lost a video file that i could not find anywhere on my computer. I couldn’t get my mac to search my backup drive without having to reindex the back up drive which was taking forever. I downloaded this app in within 1 min i found my file burried in a spot i didn’t remember saving the file in. Any it worked perfect!

Works splendidly

For some reason my search in Finder stopped working altogether. I downloaded this app and it works better than Finder’s search did. I use it exclusively now. It will find anything. It is very intuitive too.

Easy Find > Spotlight

Spotlight not searching your external drives? Spotlight too slow? In a hurry and yer Mac lost your files? Have no fear, cuz EasyFind is here! Get it

Currently our Patch

I work for a large organization where this freeware app has literally solved the mac/windows environment issue by making the server easy to search for all of our mac uers. Thanks.

Can’t Search By Content

I haven’t been able to search by content. I had trouble with a few important formats, such as odt, in Finder Search, but this is worse. I checked the documentation, and I’m supposed to select which formats it will search, but I checked the preferences, and there isn’t anywhere to select which formats it will search. Apparently it can only search 6 file formats, but I am not sure which 6, aside from txt.

Excellente. Does what Spotlight doesn’t (finds what you are looking for)

Fast. easy too use. Thanks
