EasyFind App Reviews

Well, it least it works

Now that Apple has ruined the finder search (grandly named Spotlight), something like this is a necessity. Just wish it could replace the spotlight search box so I would never see it again.

Outstanding … Life/sanity saver!

After 3+ hours of work on a big deliverable and accidentally saving the file to my Outlook Temp file which historically means the file is lost, I downloaded this app and EasyFind located the file in seconds. Great tool that saved my sanity and a LOT of time!

Where’s the latest version?

Version 4.9.2 has been available on the web site since mid November 2013. How long should it take to get it posted here?

Easy Find is basically Spotlight on steroids.

If you aren’t using Alfred and Easy Find, you’re missing out. Period.

Sometimes, you need something besides Spotlight

I keep running into situations when I can’t find something with Spotlight, or Spotlight is straight up not happening. In these dark times, I turn to EasyFind. And I always end up finding what I was looking for. Honestly, they should charge something or offer an in-app donation. It has saved me enough times I owe them.

xls lost in Outlook temp

Did Google search for my issue - found several that matched all indicating EasyFind as the quickest / easiest solution. Considering he time crunch I was under and the time already wasted attempting to search Mac on my own - I downloaded. Found / recovered my els in 2 minutes - product was a lifesaver. Highly recommend!

Excellent tool

The only real problem is that the network search capabilities that EasyFind adds should already be in the OS. Should have to add this. But once you do, all is well.

does what spotlight and finder can not

looks everywhere, including network drives, the feature which spotlight USED to do this does 10X faster, cant say enough

Finds what I need where I need unlike Spotlight

This application shouldn’t be nessecary but it, or something like it, is in Mavericks if you use any type of network drive. Spotlight is terrible at searching network shares even when they are afp shares. I wish this program integrated with the finder better and had a few more features but it does a good job at what I really wanted for. I needed an application which searches everwhere fast without having to index. And that it does quite well.

Best gets better

THis is one of the apps I install on every Mac I use regularly. Sometimes you need to find the file. Apple and the Finder hiding “dangerous” stuff from us is a major pain in the butt. Spotlight is simply unacceptable for searches related to system files. This is by far the best real search utility. Great UI, reliable, stable. Love it.

Does what Spotlight won’t anymore

Unlike Apple’s search tools, now I can search on non-Apple based servers and shared volumes again. Simple, elegant app that fixes where Apple ponderously dropped the ball long ago, and good enough to replace Spotlight entirely, if you’d like.

Simple and fast

Sometimes the search facilities in Finder (or Terminal) just don’t cut it. EasyFind is simple and fast - it is one of the first tools I install into a new OS X installation.

Apple should take lessons for this app

This app makes searching for files or folders a breeze. Especially in an external hard drive. I will never use spotlight again!

Excellent search utility

Spotlight usually finds what I need, but for tougher tasks, I am glad that this utility is out there. Every once in a while, maybe not even every year, I need to find something that I can’t remember enough about to find any other way. I’ve also found it good for helping other people to find something on their own computer. And free—here and on their own website.

I’m sorry but this app is not less then perfect!

I Love everything in this app! including the icon!!

Can find any file on your computer, and faster than Spotlight

This app has saved me a countless number of times. Cannot recommend enough. Would still download at ten times the price.

Works Better Than Spotlight

I could not get Spotlight to search files on an external drive. I had tried getting Spotlight to reindex the drive but it still would not search it. This app did the job and the search was lightening fast and free!

Great App

After setting up a file system for a client, Spotlight would not search their massive amount of files. After some investigation, I decided to try EasyFind with them. It worked like a charm. They are now able to easily search for necessary files. Great app. Are you going to update for Yosemite support?

Can find context of .eml files (outside of mail.app)— Spotlight won’t!

First, for those who are wondering: EasyFind works great under Yosemite. This app is a simple, free workaround to a major issue with Spotlight: Spotlight refuses to index .eml files unless they are part of mail.app’s repository. So, if you have email archives from some other email application stored someplace other than in mail.app, and you need to find something, you’re out of luck with Spotlight. (Previous Spotlight hacks such as forcing the file-type to ‘TEXT’ simply do not work any more, and no plug-ins seem to be available for Spotlight anymore, much less ones that would get the job done.) So, just install EasyFind from the App Store, and in the Settings drawer be sure to checkmark .eml as a file type to search. Use the Select… pull-down to point it at the folder you want it to search (it will search sub-folders automatically), and give it the keyword you want it to look for. In short order, it will present a list of files meeting your search criterion. You can scroll down these using QuickLook (hit the spacebar!) to see what each contains. Searching a massive trove of emails does take some time, though. I have a gmail repository going back quite a while and amounting to approximately half a million .eml files, and it took perhaps five or ten minutes to go through them all to find a specific keyword (which occurred in about 4,000 emails). Subsequent searches take the same amount of time; I conclude that EasyFind doesn’t index but rather greps your files on-demand. While that sacrifices some speed in the case of massive file collections like mine, it also means there’s no index to potentially break, and no time required to index. Recommended!

10 STAR App!

Can’t say enough good about this app. We originally got it because we had a folder on a PC file server that we were trying to find files on, and it would sometimes take up to 15 minutes just to load up the folder, let alone search it. This app searched and found the files we were looking for LITERALLY in 15 seconds. Now we use it for everything, even Mac folders that the Finder is taking FOREVER to search through — EasyFind does the job in seconds — sometimes almost faster than you can type out what you are looking for. Major kudos to this developer!!!
