Why isnt this part of the OS?

In the "good" old days (well, many things werent that good...) Mac OS had a good seach engine we could use to find files conveniently (at one point it became Sherlock, which was great until it got sidetracked and became something else). But for some reason, this was replaced by the extremely inconvenient Spotlight (I am frustrated each time I use it). EasyFind seems to be an up-to-date version of the Find function that had been discarded much to the detriment of the Mac.

What is needed (very much needed) is simply something that will find a file and show where it is; it would be nice to be able to open that file and move it, but that would be just icing.
